Purpose

This Audio/Visual Home Study course is being offered from the 2025 Preventing Relapse Symposium, designed for behavioral health professionals interested in advancing their skills to help relapse-prone persons remain in recovery. Attendees learned techniques to prevent relapse in a variety of settings with various presenting problems. Certified Relapse Prevention Specialists shared best practices for successfully using the Gorski-CENAPS Model of Recovery and Relapse Prevention with diverse programs, clients, and special populations. 

The cost of this course is $35.00. Participants will earn 1.25 Continuing Education credit hours upon successful completion of this 75-minute course.

  3. Complete the Continuing Education Test snd Evaluation by answering the questions included at the end of the course.
  4. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion (emailed and available through your account) with your Continuing Education credits/clock hours.

Course Description

This course focuses on implementing effective relapse prevention strategies tailored to justice-involved clients, utilizing the comprehensive CENAPS model. Participants will explore suggested approaches and interventions designed to address the unique challenges faced by individuals within the criminal justice system.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this homestudy course, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify stress management techniques, problem-solving skills, and how to build strong support networks to navigate high-risk situations effectively.

  • Create a Personal Relapse Prevention Plan to address triggers related to incarceration, reentry stress, and community reintegration.

Instructor Richard Beal

Richard Beal M-RAS, CSC, FAC, CCDS, CADCII, ACRPS Richard Beal has over 25 years of experience working with the justice involved population. He is currently the Director of Recovery Services for Tenderloin Housing Clinic. He has managed several residential programs in the San Francisco Bay Area including Western Addition Recovery House, (San Francisco, Ca.) Center for Recovery (San Francisco, Ca.) and in-custody program Roads to Recovery in San Francisco County Jail. Richard Beal has the unique blend of working with diverse populations, clinical knowledge, living experience, and comprehensive understanding of the complex dynamics underlying addiction, relapse, and recovery. He has been utilizing the CENAPS model in treatment facilities for the last twenty years.
